15 Feb 3G was supposed to go live today
The bad news is: it isn’t. We’re all a little disappointed about this here at Mobile Vikings. Please allow us to explain why it will take a few more weeks.
When KPN announced they would upgrade their network to 3G, we immediately started lobbying to ensure our Mobile Vikings would be amongst the first users to receive 3G. We had discussions on pricing, technology and communication. In the end our partner was convinced that Mobile Vikings was a good audience to test 3G.
But when we looked at the technological impact, it was not this simple. The systems that take care of the Base customers are different systems then the ones taking care of Mobile Vikings. Only the network is shared. This means that a lot of tests needed to be carried out. The deadline for these tests was last week, so the planned activation of 3G for Mobile Vikings was today.
We were just informed that some of the tests went wrong. On Thursday a problem surfaced related to charging of 3G sessions. Presumably this is only a minor glitch that only occurs in rare circumstances, since all other tests passed correctly. But to ensure that your call credit doesn’t start disappearing when you surf on 3G, we can’t activate 3G today. It will take the rest of the week to rerun the test plan to exactly pinpoint the issue (sorry, but these things are quite complex).
From the moment we have more news on the rerun of the test plan (presumably on Friday), we will get back to you with a new date. It could be that the problem takes only a couple of days to fix, but we can’t say anything right now before the tests have been executed again. Expect 2 to 3 weeks of delay.
We also would like to apologize for the non-communication about 3G in the last weeks. But until the end of the official testing period we were not allowed to communicate anything about the expected release date.

Base en Mobile Vikings zijn nog altijd testen aan het uitvoeren.
Dus we kunnen je nog steeds geen datum geven over wanneer 3G er zal zijn. -

Wed 17 Mar 2010 11:39Zou tof zijn ben tevreden van EDGE. Gebruik vooral email en dergelijke.
3G heeft alleen een groot voordeel als je gebeld word dan blijft je inet verbinding bestaan en dat zie ik wel zitten :p

Wed 17 Mar 2010 11:50Ik ben ook al zeer tevreden met EDGE. Maar ik kijk toch uit naar overschakeling naar 3G.
Voor mobile sites en meeste email is EDGE wel voldoende, maar ik gebruik mijn gsm geregeld voor tethering en dan zal 3G wel echt zijn vruchten afwerpen!Ik ben in elk geval een zeer tevreden viking!

De werkdag heeft lang geduurd. We hebben een fix en we hebben een datum, van het ogenblik deze 200% zeker is zullen we hierrond een nieuwe blogpost publiceren. -

When forcing 3G (WCDMA only), it works like a charm at work but when leaving my office, i lost the connection and need to change settings and be in EDGE!!!
Any news ?
