1 Jul Good news: Mobile Vikings now available without price increase, but at a small entry cost

As of today, everyone can register for a Mobile Vikings SIM card. There is no longer a need to obtain an invite code. We managed to keep our pricing at the same excellent level as it was before. The only downside is that we will charge an initial sign-up fee of 15€ to obtain a SIM card if you don't transfer your phone number to us.

Mobile Vikings has been a huge success from the day we launched back in February. Since we undercut all competition with our free mobile data offer, we expected that there would be a high demand. To control the number of users, we introduced a system of invite codes. When demand started to get too high, we just released less invite codes.

This was done for two reasons. The first reason is that we needed some time to stabilize our software platform. This platform was built by us from scratch and had never served in a live environment before. We wanted to fine tune our platform and the operational processes used by our staff without being overwhelmed by the high number of users. The second reason was that we needed to make sure that it was financially possible to sustain the offer. This depends on a lot of factors, but the calling profile of our users and the amount of free SMS/data that the average user consumes is a very large component in this.

Now that we have a few months of experience, we see that our "best" users are the ones that transfer their number to Mobile Vikings. The explanation for this is simple: since they use Mobile Vikings as their main SIM card, they tend to make more phone calls, which generates a profit that can contribute towards the free data and sms.

To encourage new users to transfer their existing phone number to Mobile Vikings, we continue to provide them with a SIM card completely for free. There is no startup cost and no commitment to a subscription to become a Mobile Viking, as long as you are willing to transfer your existing phone number to us. Users that choose to request a new phone number will however have to pay a sign-up fee of 15€ to obtain a SIM card. This means you can still order Mobile Vikings as a second SIM card, but you need to pay a small entry fee.
