27 Apr Listen to the radio
Today Mobile Vikings was featured on Belgian national radio. Or how a movement for free internet can spread.
On Friday we got a phonecall from the VRT (Flemish Radio and Television) to ask if we had an SMS expert. They wanted someone to come and talk about why our youth is sending so many SMS messages whilst making so few phonecalls.
I eagerly agreed to come to the studio, hoping that we could talk more about mobile internet then sms. In the morning I quickly asked my kids why they think young people send sms messages. The 8 year old responded "because if you make a phonecall people always start talking about other stuff". And the 5 year old added "and if you call you can only chat to 1 person at the time".
Convinced that this expert opinion would get me through the interview, I left for the studio. When I arrived there I learned they found a real expert (a researcher from IBBT that made a study on why young people use SMS) but that they would interview me anyway to ask the point of view of an operator.
I'm verry happy with the result. I was asked to explain the Mobile Vikings offer and I got the chance to explain how mobile internet is changing our communication habits. If you want to hear the small interview, you can download the recording.
Maybe with the upcoming elections, you will see more of the Mobile Vikings movement in the press.
