20 Nov WEB or APP?
On the 19th of November, Mobile Vikings joined the 4th edition of the Web Goes Mobile seminar, organized by www.mobileweb.be at the Business Faculty in Brussels.
Mobileweb.be, Plug & Play Mobile Solutions, a Belgium Based company, offers SMS applications and mobile communication services to a wide range of professional clients. For the fourth edition of their Web goes Mobile seminar, they invited several speakers - like Didier Ongena of Microsoft Advertising and Andrew Grill of Mobile Evangelist - to talk about the pro and contra of mobile internet websites and mobile internet applications and to present some case studies.
Definitely an interesting subject and even more if you consider the shift in the state of mind of the attendees. A poll by SMS done before the sessions started pointed out that for most of the participants, mobile applications would be more successful than mobile websites. At the end of the day, the results of the new poll were significant: 70% of the participants now stated mobile websites would be the ultimate champions!

Fri 20 Nov 2009 19:37I depends... games (for example) are better as apps while apps that *need* the internet can be optimized webpages.
I've written my own webapp that checks my MV credit and dumps the date in one html table... simple but effective.
It really depends on functionality. A chat/mail is internet based but i prefer dedicated apps because they offer offline mode (especially for email is this handy)
Google for example makes both great apps and webapps so you can pick your favorite.
It will always be an open and evolving discussion because the internet is still young... html5 will provide lots of interesting grow possibilities when it becomes the standard.
We'll have to wait and see.

Wed 25 Nov 2009 13:20Well, I think an native APP would be better, faster and sometimes not web dependent.
It depends on the nature of the application.
I'm for Native apps.
Live long native apps ! :-)

Sat 06 Mar 2010 04:15If it's possible and if it is something that doesn't need offline mode, I prefere web apps because they're working on almost every phone, instead of apps that should be writent for Windows Phone (ex-Windows Mobile), Android, Symbian, iPhone OS, different manufacturer's own Java-based OS,...
