18 Jun Cheaper voicecalls and automatic top-up
Last week we were the first Belgian operator to announce our micro-simcards. Last month we also were the first to offer invoices on a prepaid sim card. Today, we have more good news for you.
Voicecalls only €0,14
The new discounted calling rate of Mobile Vikings is only €0,14/min. This is the cheapest rate you will find on the Belgian prepaid market. On top of that you still get 1000 sms and 1 GB mobile internet for free. To switch to this rate, you simply need to top up with €40 instead of €15. From the moment you top up with €15 again, you will return to the standard rate of €0,24.
Automatic top-up
When you choose for our automatic top-up, your sim card will be topped-up when your credit gets low or when your free internet of sms bundle is exhausted. The amount of your top-up will be deducted from your bank account. On our website you can configure when the automatic top-up needs to be executed and with what amount (€15 or €40) you want to top-up. We send you an sms to confirm each top-up. This allows you to stay up to date on your credit consumption.
SMS top-up
If you prefer to stay in control of your top-ups you can top up via sms. This feature also requires a link with your bank account. Further instructions are available on our website.
With these new features Mobile Vikings becomes the best choice for almost everyone. You have the freedom of prepaid combined with the luxury of a subscription. You can call cheap and you can surf for free. Now is the time to convince even more friends to become Mobile Vikings. So you can call for free with our Viking Points!
Update: we're getting a lot of questions about the data/sms bundle. They remain the same for both top-ups, so you'll get 1000 SMS and 1 GB data for 30 days regardless the top-up amount.

Tue 22 Jun 2010 23:05I won't be using it (I only use between €5 and €10/month) but a friend of mine who is Proximus calls between €80 and €100/month. Mobile Vikings was too expensive for him. I'll check it out for him but he may be cheaper with MV now with the added benefit of data....

Wed 23 Jun 2010 01:41Not really interrested in this new formula. I would have been if it was an offer at 20 or 25€ (with cheaper calls than with a 15€ refill, not especially 0.14€ per minute).
What I am wondering is when the 56Kb/s limit will be off. Stress tests must have been enough since end of March... I think everybody would like to use HSDPA speed. -

Fri 25 Jun 2010 21:44Will there be ever a lite formula? The new tarif is great for people who call a lot but not for me because i'm on the oposite side.
I've the problem that I call a lot less than 15 euro/month so it add up and then when I'm not topping up to get my balance down I'm not able to surf the internet (I turn it of because paying/MB is expensive).
A proposal would be:
5 euro (0.25 cent/min for calls) =
20 call minutes
250 sms (or more)
250 mb data (or more)or the possibility to buy sms and data bundels*
250 sms = 5euro
250 mb data = 5euro*ones that do not expire
thx!

Wed 30 Jun 2010 09:24@Calvin, that's the whole deal with Mobile Vikings
The whole marketingplan/businessidea is that they offer free data and sms. You would make it paid like all other providers? Bad idea. This is their Unique Selling Proposition and it is great.

I see it more as an added value... still free but if you need more then you can buy at *affordable* rates which would be a secon selling proposotion.
With the new EU regulations is it possible that you can surf the internet cheaper on vacation that when you're at home (and paying per MB)

Sat 31 Jul 2010 07:50It doesn't make sense to charge calls per whole minute if you propose a plan for heavy calls-sms-data users.
Ex: you make a call of 61 sec, you pay two minutes (0,28 €) with a Jumbo top-up while it is clearly meant to allow us call cheaper.
Some will answer: we are mostly interested with data than voice calls. Ok but why creating such a plan then?On top of this, there is no difference with the bonus you get with a classic top-up (1000 sms + 1Gb data usage) which is only valid one month. Question: who (as prepaid customer on a budget!) will make a Jumbo top-up each month to get the bonus?
Conclusion: the advantage is not clear.
Stay with a top-up of 15 € each month to make sure you get the bonus even if calls are more expensive! -

Sat 31 Jul 2010 17:33Also think that a topup of 40 euro isn't used alot by the people MV tries to target.
Great that it exists but if the cost for MV to maintain this rate plan is higher than not offering it, I would say, it’s better to keep the 1 simple rate plan for all users. -

Sun 15 Aug 2010 19:38I agree,
I topped up 40€ last month and I enjoyed cheaper calls!
But now one month as gone and I still have about 20€ left but no more free internet or text messages...It would have been great if you could use the free sms and internet for a 2 month period it case you topup 40€
Now i'll have to topup a 15€ pack to get back the internet and the 20€ left will be used at 24cents/min... -

Mon 16 Aug 2010 06:521) Why is this in English? Isn't MV a Belgian company on a Belgian network?
2) The 40EUR plan is not a bad idea. I'm now a Base user with a 50EUR/month pack. When looking at my invoices I can see that I can save a lot of money by going with MV 15EUR/month and doing 40EUR/month every 2 or 3 months.
