3 May Micro SIM cards ordered
We have placed an order for micro sim cards to accomodate iPad 3G and future iPhone 4G customers. Delivery is scheduled for end of June.
When Apple first presented the iPad, it became clear that the 3G version would not work with normal sim cards. Instead, Apple opted for the rarely used 3FF sim card format. This format is not in use for mobile phones today. It is only used for a few specific embedded applications.
We immediately contacted our supplier to see if we could place an order for micro sims. After evaluating the options, we settled on a multi-format sim card. The 3FF micro sim can be punched out by the user in the same way that the usual 2FF format is punched out of the large, 1FF format sim card plastic. The illustration below should be self-explanatory.
Since this format is new, it takes some time for the sim card suppliers to get everything ready. To give an example, the artwork that is normally printed on the sim card needs to be redesigned since nothing can be printed on the chip side of the 3FF card. Also the print margins and strenght of the 1FF/2FF/3FF combination card need to be tested.
We have received confirmation today that our order is scheduled for delivery end of June. When all goes well, we will be able to ship the cards immediately after delivery. We still need to decide how to adapt the order process. One option (not decided yet) is that all new sim cards shipped will be of the new multi-format. This would allow you the flexibility to use your sim card in your current iPhone and punch out the micro format when you upgrade to an iPhone 4G.
Any changes in our shipment date of micro sim cards will be indicated at the bottom of this post.

Wed 16 Jun 2010 10:42I've also preordered the desimlocked version of the iPhone 4 in France, I'm supposed to receive it by the end of next week.
I'll have to wait for a couple of weeks later before I can use it, for there is no micro-sim card available for the moment :/ Anyways, as soon as MV micro-sim cards are available, i'll take one :) -

Fri 18 Jun 2010 20:25BTW, the following web-shop could be useful for those who wants to use micro SIM with usual mobile phones. http://www.buy-microsim.com - they sell adapters fro micro SIM to convert it back to usual SIM card. I got mine couple days ago, it is well designed peice of plastic that fit nice to my old phone, so now I can use single SIM card with iPAD and my iPhone.

Fri 25 Jun 2010 12:43@ Jietse: you will buy a 630/740 euro iPhone but a cost for switching to micro-sim shows a lack of customer friendliness? That's quite a warped view of customer friendliness you have :)

Thu 01 Jul 2010 11:55Guys, there is a way to use microSIM card in every mobile phone, and not only in the Iphone 4 or Ipad! I heard there is a thing called micro sim adapter. Basically, you put your microSIM card inside it and use it in any phone. I googlesearched it and found it here: gomicrosim.com They say it costs 4.5 EUR. They also seem to offer the sticker guide to cut the regular simcard into the microsim. IMHO their price and quality are the best so far.
